ETIAS Fees

As part of submitting an ETIAS application, travellers between the ages of 18 and 70 will need to pay the €7 fee. There are also additional considerations applicants should be aware of prior to applying. These are explained below:

How will payments be processed for the ETIAS application fee?

Payments for ETIAS applications will be managed by the EU's preferred financial intermediaries and payment processors. Payment will be accepted via debit or credit card. The actual traveller information on the application form will not be sent to financial intermediaries, only the billing details required to process the payment. Once the fee is successfully processed, a unique reference number will be generated that represents the successful payment authorisation. This will then be linked to the application and enables it to be processed for a decision.

Can I pay for the ETIAS in another currency?

No, the application fee will be charged in Euros (EUR). If an applicant wishes to obtain a favourable exchange rate, they should consider using a debit or credit card that also does not charge additional fees for billing in Euros (€).

How will applicants under 18 and over 70 submit a free ETIAS application?

The €7 ETIAS application fee will only be chargable for applicants that are between the ages of 18 and 70 at the time of application. Thus, if an applicant is younger than 18 or older than 70 at the time of applying, they will not be required to submit payment information to submit their ETIAS application. The ETIAS fee will be waived for these applicants.

Are there any discounts or reductions possible when applying for ETIAS?

No, the full €7 ETIAS application fee applies to all visa-exempt nationals who are travelling to the EU and who at the time of the application are between the ages of 18 and 70 years of age, as well as family members of EU citizens. Family member travellers are considered to be spouses, registered partners, direct descendents or dependent who are visiting their EU relatives in their country of residence or citizenship.

Will I be refunded if my ETIAS is denied?

The €7 is non-refundable regardless if the application is approved or denied.

How are the ETIAS application fees used by the EU?

The €7 ETIAS is intended to fund the costs of running the departments and systems of ETIAS. These include the ETIAS databases and information systems, ETIAS Central Unit and National Units. Furthermore eu-LISA, Europol and the European Border and Coast Guard Agency will be funded as part of their duties in supporting the ETIAS.

Will the EU increase the ETIAS application fees annually?

The original ETIAS Regulations state the European Union will update the pricing for the ETIAS based on the costs incurred to run the system. Thus, if the operational costs cause the EU to lose money, it is likely the bloc will need to increase pricing to avoid such losses.

How will the EU spend the ETIAS money after their costs are covered?

If the revenue generated from ETIAS exceeds the costs incurred by the EU, the remaining funds will be added to the EU budget to use however they see fit for the benefit of the bloc.
